Because for all the things built to keep us small, we rise.
It's no secret that growing up female in our society comes with some great struggles. Most of which are learned or encountered at a young age.
From sexism, to high societal expectations, to perfectionism, to being shamed, to unrealistic body standards, to unrealistic motherhood standards, to the early adoption idea that girls have a certain "girl" behavior that is expected of them, even to it being her fault when a boy has no control over himself. There are many things out there that we face daily from such a young age.
And yet, for all the things built to keep us small, we rise.
We rise through adversity.
We rise through trauma.
We rise through abuse.
We rise to become mothers.
and business owners, despite the "stats".
and mothers while also being business owners... again, despite the stats.
and even empty nesters, creating a new business, all despite the stats.
We rise through all the self questioning, the imposter syndrome, the second guessing, the third guessing, and the opinions of those who will never understand,
and once again, for all the things built in this world to keep us small. We rise.
... and oh, when we do, it is truely a thing of beauty and art.
Even when we feel like it's a mess, it's beautiful, and elegant and powerful.
It's Art.
It's the Art of the woman.
It's the Art of becoming a woman.
It's the Art of Her.

There is a moment right before a boudoir session where almost every woman does the same thing.
She stands in front of her closet holding two options.
The thing she thinks she should wear.
And the thing she actually wants to wear.
Nine times out of ten she brings the first one.
This is the Script talking. The one that says be appropriate, be safe, be easy to look at. The one that has been editing her choices long before she ever stepped into a studio.
Your session is not for that version of you.
It is for the woman underneath her, the one who already knows what makes her feel powerful. Your wardrobe should pull her forward, not keep her hidden.
Here is what that looks like in practice.
Wear: Pieces That Feel Like Permission
Not pieces that look good in theory. Pieces that do something to you when you put them on.
You know the ones. Your breath changes. You stand slightly differently. Something in you goes... There she is.
That is what we are looking for. Beyond that, here are some things I think are fantastic to bring to your session:
Bodysuits
Stretchy, sculpting, elegant.
They flatter every body and create clean lines in images.
They are also the closest thing to armor that still looks like art.
Perfect for the woman who wants to feel both held and free at the same time.
Robes + Silky Layers
They add movement and softness and a little mystery.
They are also perfect for easing into the session.
Something to slip on between setups, something that lets you arrive slowly instead of all at once.
Textures That Match Your Vibe
Lace for softness. Satin for luxury.
An oversized knit for the woman who is sensual in the quietest way.
Mesh for boldness.
Leather for fire.
Texture tells a story before you ever strike a pose.
Choose the story you want to tell.
Personal pieces with emotional weight
His shirt.
Her grandmother's necklace.
The perfume you wear when you want to feel like yourself.
A piece tied to a chapter you are closing or a version of yourself you are stepping into.
Emotion photographs better than anything money can buy. Bring it.
Lingerie You Actually Love
Not the scratchy ones. Not the safe ones.
The ones you put on and immediately feel different in, sharper, softer, more yourself, whatever your version of that is.
If it has been sitting in the drawer waiting for the right occasion, this is the occasion.
Skip: Anything That Makes You Shrink
Uncomfortable lingerie
Boudoir is not the place for I hope this hides... energy.
If it makes you tug, adjust, apologize, or hold your breath, it is a no.
Ill-fitting bras + tight elastic
They leave marks on your skin and, more importantly, they remind you that something needs to be managed.
This is not a day for managing yourself. Consider getting properly fitted before your session.

Busy patterns
Your body is the subject.
Your wardrobe is the frame.
Busy prints fight that. Solid colors, simple textures, clean lines.
These let you be the thing people see.
Anything chosen out of pressure or fear
If you bought it because you thought you should, not because you love it, leave it on the hanger.
Should is the Script.
We are not doing that here.
The Real Truth About What to Wear
There is no perfect outfit.
There is only the outfit that makes you feel like the version of yourself you came here to find.
Wear what makes you feel powerful.
Leave what makes you feel small.
And trust that the woman who shows up in front of that lens will be unforgettable, not because of what she is wearing, but because of who she finally allowed herself to be.
