I didn't reach out to a photographer expecting such an awakening.

You're doing such an amazing thing.

Because for all the things built to keep us small, we rise.

It's no secret that growing up female in our society comes with some great struggles. Most of which are learned or encountered at a young age.

From sexism, to high societal expectations, to perfectionism, to being shamed, to unrealistic body standards, to unrealistic motherhood standards, to the early adoption idea that girls have a certain "girl" behavior that is expected of them, even to it being her fault when a boy has no control over himself. There are many things out there that we face daily from such a young age.

And yet, for all the things built to keep us small, we rise.

We rise through adversity.

We rise through trauma.

We rise through abuse.

We rise to become mothers.

and business owners, despite the "stats".

and mothers while also being business owners... again, despite the stats.

and even empty nesters, creating a new business, all despite the stats.

We rise through all the self questioning, the imposter syndrome, the second guessing, the third guessing, and the opinions of those who will never understand,

and once again, for all the things built in this world to keep us small. We rise.

... and oh, when we do, it is truely a thing of beauty and art.

Even when we feel like it's a mess, it's beautiful, and elegant and powerful.

It's Art.

It's the Art of the woman.

It's the Art of becoming a woman.

It's the Art of Her.

Jessica: Tell us about your business, what do you do?

Kristen: I am the owner of Mooncat Crystals, an online crystal shop. I love helping people find meaningful crystals - as well as ways to work with them in their daily lives. Whether it’s through curated collections, practical resources, or educational content, my goal is to make crystals approachable and relevant. And to inspire personal growth, creativity, and transformation.

It’s all about connecting with what resonates and empowering people to make it their own.

Jessica: What do you love most about what you do?

Kristen: What I love most is seeing how people connect with crystals in their ownunique way. It's amazing to hear stories about how a certain crystal or practice helped someone feel grounded, inspired, or more aligned with themselves.

I also love getting to know so many different crystals, vendors, and clients. I'm also a life-long crystal lover, so being able to give a temporary home to so many beautiful and unique pieces is so cool.

Jessica: What is a Myth about your industry? Can you debunk it?

Kristen: One of the biggest myths about crystals is the idea that there are hard-and-fast "rules" about which crystals you’re allowed to work with or that certain ones will bring bad energy or ruin your life. For example, you might hear things like, "You’re not ready for Moldavite," or "Never combine these crystals because it’s dangerous."

Here’s the truth: crystals work with your energy—they don’t control it. The idea that a crystal can overpower you or harm your life is rooted in fear, not fact. If you feel drawn to a crystal, trust that instinct. It’s about your connection and how it resonates with you, not about following rigid rules or being afraid of the "wrong" choice. Your experience is valid and unique, and crystals are there to support, not dictate, your journey.

Jessica: What is one thing you wish everyone knew, before working with you?

Kristen: I wish everyone knew how much care and intention goes into everything I offer. When I choose crystals, I pick each piece as if it were for me—looking for quality, energy, and uniqueness. With over 25 years of experience working with crystals and as a certified crystal healer, I’ve spent a lot of time learning and understanding how crystals can support people in meaningful ways. My goal is to make shopping with me feel personal and intentional, so you know you’re getting something truly special and chosen with care.

Jessica: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Kristen: Something people might be surprised to learn about me is that I’m a breast cancer survivor. It’s a part of my journey that has profoundly shaped who I am and how I approach life and my business. It taught me resilience, the importance of listening to my intuition, and the value of creating a life filled with meaning and intention. That experience is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about helping others find tools—like crystals—that can offer support, inspiration, and grounding during life’s transitions and help you to be authentically you.

Jessica: Anything else you would like to add?

Kristen: I’d just like to say how grateful I am to connect with others through my work. Whether you’re new to crystals or have been working with them for years, I’m here to support and inspire you in your journey. Life is full of challenges and transformations, but I truly believe we all have the tools to navigate them—and I’m honored to play a small part in helping you find yours. Thank you for trusting me to be part of your path.
